Brunswick Hockey Club ran nine teams for the U12-18 age groups in 2025, offering a wonderful range of skill-level opportunities for our junior players. We pride ourselves on offering all age groups and all genders the opportunity to play hockey at all ability levels offered by Hockey Victoria to ensure we allow your child to grow, develop and improve. We tend to be very good at holding onto our junior players and we work from a ‘hockey for life’ philosophy. No matter what level you come to us at, we aim to develop your player as our priority, not just win games.

To simplify life for those players and carers starting their hockey careers, BHC successfully launched into the Hub model first implemented by Hockey Victoria in 2024. This approach sees players aged 5-10 years of age take part in weekly round robin events between three clubs at a set venue - offering all the excitement of a home-and-away season with none of the hassle. In 2024 we hosted a full year of the local Hub with Essendon and PEGS and then shared duties with Essendon in 2025, which is less than 10 minutes down the road.

We’re always eager to meet new players - whether you’re looking for a competitive competition or a more social hockey experience. 

2026 teams will be confirmed once we get an understanding of participant numbers

Under 6s: In 2025 we were very excited to commence a new program for U6 players. We are able to tuck those players into the hub model and they come with us no matter where we play. However none of the travel is onerous so we know it isn’t too much for these future champions.

Under 8s: This age group is also a relatively new innovation, first offered by us (and Hockey Victoria) in 2024. Under 8s play on 1/8th field against other clubs in our area to introduce them to the skills of hockey. Competitions run over term 2 and term 3 and all matches are hosted at our Brunswick pitch or within 10 minutes travel.

Under 10s: Under 10s play 1/4 field competitions on a Saturday Morning against other teams in our local area. Competitions run over term 2 and term 3 and all matches are hosted at our Brunswick pitch or within 10 minutes travel.

Under 12s:

• U12 Boys Shield

• Under 12 District (Half Field Competition for developing U12 players)

Under 14s:

• U14 Girls Shield

• U14 Boys Pennant

Under 16s:

• U16 Girls Shield

• U16 Boys Shield

• U16 Mixed District

U18 Mixed District

2026 Season Kick-off

2026 pre-season training is open to all players and will commence on Tuesdays from February 17th, with a new, external hockey super coach leading the program. John Mowat is a highly experienced and respected hockey coach who was head of hockey training for men and women at VIS for 19 years. He is now helping develop our players by leading our pre-season development academy at BHC each Tuesday. Please email at the details below for more information.
